ARE WE ON THE RIGHT TRACK FELLOWS?

College students all over the world are ranked academically wise according to what is called Grade Point Average (GPA). Due to this, every student struggles to get as higher GPA as they can.

Oddly, many students, in particular Tanzanian students have been devoting too much of their energy attempting to achieve higher GPA while forgetting wholly that studying, in essence goes far beyond that.
If I ask why do we enroll at colleges? I believe, most of you will deliver quite the same answer, we aim at enriching our intellect and get a life time assurance of good job opportunities, the formal being the ultimate reason.
It is alleged, and in some situations true that higher GPA students get wider opportunities in job seeking and put themselves in a good position to get employed easily. The adage is true; however it’s not always the case.
It is not subject to discussion that, we ought to work so hard as to get good GPA to prove to the employers that we are intelligent and well capable to master our carrier well. But we should never set that as our primary goal for our studying.
As a matter of fact, higher GPA will only enable us to be spotted easily but not employed easily and this is because Employers nowadays have come to realize GPA is not a good indication of competence. They have deviced other means to measure level of applicants' competence, like extended interviews which contain demostrations and sophiscated basket of questions concerning exposure on the whole.
So as a piece of advice, I urge you all, if you surely want to fulfill your dreams and reach your beautiful destiny before you know it, then as a college student, you'd better concentrate much on knowledge rather than performance (GPA), expose yourself rather than confine yourself to class materials.
it's me and only me, emmino.......and by the way, not to decide is still to decide.

I dont jump in your bandwagon easy like that or agree with you on this issue. To me, this case sounds to be the same or goes hand in hand with the selection that the Universities and colleges do. They select students with high scores first and give a second priority of selection to those with lower scores.Thats the same to many of the employers nowadays.
Employers nowadays are looking for smart and intelligent employee at the first place, who will be able do their work right.
There is no any way that a Human Resource manager or staffing supervisor will be willing to sit there reading all those resumes and right there understand that this person has a wide knowledge on something. The only easy way they can find this is by picking those candidates with higher GPA first.
So dont tell me that a person with lower GPA can pass that first thresshold.
I will admit though after the first pick the selected candidates normally will undergo a second scrutiny, that will base their knowledge and core understanding of the company they wish to work for. And, may be the expertise they may bring with.
Lets be clear though, many of the jobs that are advertised as entry level positions are for everyone with the required degree etc, fresh from school. In many cases those student with better GPA are more likely to be called or picked for the second interview compared to those with lower GPA.
So lets still keep the emphasis on attaining high GPA while in school , but also give ourselve a room to understand exactly what we have been reading.
It is very hard, and show a sense of stupidness, for a student who graduated a B Com degree in accountancy and never trained on any accounting software. And expect them to perform good,on this new companies interviews that uses this softwares to operate their accounting dept. With no hands on experience at school ,we will be faliures to ourselves.
I have seen many universities student resumes out there that still shows computer knowledge is knowing word, excel, powerpoint etc. This days that skills sounds like you are applying for secretarial jobs. An accounting degree holder will need to go further than that. A knowledge or skill with quikbooks, peach tree and SAP softwares tells everybody (A human Resources, employers, management team) that you are not only computer knowledgeable but also computer expert in your field.

i think both GPA n knowledge matterz. A higher "GPA" wil make u noticable to employerz, and once u employeed "knowledge" wil make u gud at ur wrk, enjoying it cz u knw exactly wat u dng.

GPA muhimu kwanza , hata kama hutapata kazi TZ itakusaidia kusonga mbele sehemu nyingine ambao kuna mtu ataona ina umuhimu.

GPA kwanza halafu mambo mengine baadaye, piga suli.
